Old School Evil 2024 Year in Review

Looking back at 2024 is a little humbling.

I’ve said before a bunch of times that the first half of this year was a dead zone for me productively. Starting in June, I was able to get back into writing again, but I focused most of my attention on articles for the Retro Network. When I finally got back into writing on Old School Evil 3, I thought I was making good progress. The document was getting longer for a few months, but in that time I only added about 17,000 words to the book. The book is about 2/3 of the way written if my previous book word counts are anything to go by. Besides writing it, I went back through and edited a lot of it, and I did expand on the outline, which is almost complete. It just doesn’t feel like enough – though I guess at my pace it never does.

I did write a lot for the Retro Network though, and in July, I started writing for Rediscover the 80s as well. I’m finding a lot of enjoyment in sharing memories of my past, whether it’s cartoon-related or not. I posted a total of seven articles on TRN, including my first action figure review, and five articles on RD80s. I’ve been able to establish a bit of a schedule for posting, which unfortunately got disrupted due to the holidays, but should be easy to get back onto it.

Considering the only real promotion I did for the book has been on BlueSky, sales weren’t as bad this year as last year. I sold 2 paperbacks, 6 ebooks, and gave away 15 ebooks. Sure, that sounds terrible, and, I mean, it is, but I’m still happy with it. I ran my first giveaway through social media and an ad on Facebook, and even though neither of them amounted to anything, it was cool to expand my experiences.

So that brings me to 2025 – what do I have in store for next year? More than anything, I need to publish Old School Evil 3. I’m pretty sure I said the same thing at the beginning of this year, but I’m more determined than ever to do it now. Because I’m not sure what I want to do after that. I honestly don’t know what’s going to happen after I publish this book. I have other books I want to write, but with how difficult these three books have been to write, and edit, and publish, I’m just not sure I want to keep going through that process. Maybe I’ll take it easy on myself and just post chapters on Wattpad or something as I’m writing the later books.

Anyway, my focus at the beginning of this year will be finishing the first draft of OSE 3. I know around February I’ll have to take it easy since I always seem to get sick around then (even though I already got sick this month, so maybe I got it early). I’m going to continue publishing articles on both sites as long as I can though. Maybe that’ll be my focus after I publish this book. Besides publishing book 3, I’m not exactly sure what 2025 has in store for Old School Evil, but I’m looking forward to finding out. I hope you are too. Happy New Year to those who’ve stuck with me for so long. I really appreciate you!
